Electrical activity in specific brain cells allows us to create and recall memories. BRAIN Initiative scientists used new tools to send tiny electrical currents to and found that their memories became stronger. This could help us improve therapies and treat memory disorders in the future.

Sometimes patients who have a brain disorder or are undergoing a neurosurgery will have the option to participate in scientific research. If he/she agrees to participate in the research, the patient gives scientists the opportunity to study the human brain and uncover new findings in neuroscience!
