Postdoctoral Fellow

Dr. Stein-O'Brien is a Kavli Neuroscience Discovery Institute (Kavli NDI) postdoctoral fellow in the laboratories of Drs. Elana Fertig and Loyal Goff at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. She is affiliated with the Departments of Oncology Biostatics and Bioinformatics, Genomic Medicine, Neuroscience, Institute for Data Intensive Engineering and Science, and Kavli NDI. After graduating with a A.B. in Mathematics from Bryn Mawr College, she received a PhD in Human Genetics from Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and a concurrent MHS in Biostatistics from Johns Hopkins School of Public Health.

Dr. Stein-O'Brien's research is focused on the stochastic processes underlying gene regulation in dynamic biological systems. Specifically, she develops computational and statistical methods for pattern detection and data integration in high-throughput genomics. Her BRAIN Initiative project is developing paired computational and experimental tools to test the effect of genetic background on the spatiotemporal dynamics controlling brain development.
