Systems Neuroscience

The NIH BRAIN Initiative supports systems neuroscience research which aims to understand how circuit activity gives rise to mental experience and behavior using innovative and methodologically integrated approaches.

The systems neuroscience program promotes the development and use of quantitative approaches to understand brain circuits, from cellular to behavioral scales across multiple species. Through the NIH BRAIN Initiative’s Understanding Circuits program, model-driven experimental design is emphasized to generate a testable hypothesis. A challenge of particular interest is how to best integrate innovative brain circuit theories through modeling and data science activities.
