The Allen Institute for Neural Dynamics, the Allen Institute MindScope Program, and the University of Washington will co-host a 3-day workshop on June 21-23, 2023 for researchers interested in gaining in-depth knowledge of Neuropixels and OpenScope—two resources designed to collect in vivo physiology data at scale. Applications are open until February 1, 2021.

The Allen Institute for Brain Science, a BRAIN Initiative Alliance (BIA) partner, and the University of Washington (UW) will co-host a 3-day workshop on June 21-23, 2023. The workshop will provide an in-depth reviewing of two resources— Neuropixels and OpenScope. The Allen Institute is one of the key developers of Neuropixels probes, a tool that has quickly become a standard for electrophysiology recordings. The BRAIN-funded program OpenScope provides the neuroscience community with access to the Allen Brain Observatory. The program accelerates and enables sophisticated neuroscience hypotheses to be tested with selected in vivo experiments at the Allen Institute.

This workshop will allow participants to tour the Allen Institute’s electrophysiology and imaging facilities and learn about these methodologies from Allen Institute and UW’s staff. In addition, the workshop will offer lectures and demonstrations that will address high-quality physiology datasets, from surgery to behavior training to neural recordings. Participants will also learn how to access data from the Allen Brain Observatory and about the OpenScope program.

Applications are due February 1, 2023. Applicants will be notified by May 1, 2023. Graduate students, postdocs, staff scientists, and PIs with some experience with in vivo recordings with some experience with in vivo recordings are encouraged to apply—additional details about the workshop and registration are here.

This workshop is being supported by NIHBRAINDissemination Program grants (1U24NS109043 and 1U24NS113646) and the National Science Foundation.

In addition, if you are a BRAIN Initiative scientist interested in sharing your resources with the community, please fill out the BIA’s Toolmakers Web Form to be considered for the Toolmakers’ Resources webpage and a chance to be featured in the quarterly newsletter.
