The notice encourages BRAIN applicants to apply to the NIH Blueprint MedTech program’s funding opportunities aimed at accelerating the translation of early stage neurotechnologies to first-in-human studies.

Blueprint MedTech and the Brain Research Through Advancing Innovative Neurotechnologies® (BRAIN) Initiative have published a joint Notice of Special Interest (NOSI) which encourages the translation of novel neurotechnologies, funded through the BRAIN Initiative and overseen by the NIH Blueprint MedTech program. The Blueprint MedTech program aims to accelerate the development of cutting-edge medical devices to diagnose and/or treat nervous system disorders.

NOT-NS-22-052 - BRAIN Initiative: Translation of Groundbreaking Technologies from Early-stage Development through Early Clinical Study via Blueprint MedTech

This NOSI is intended to encourage Academic and Small Business Concerns (SBCs) to submit grant applications that propose non-clinical validation for subsequent clinical feasibility studies. Applications supporting the development and translation of groundbreaking neurotechnologies that fit within the mission of the BRAIN Initiative are encouraged to submit through the Blueprint MedTech program. Submit applications for this initiative using one of the following notices of funding opportunities (NOFOs) or any reissues of these NOFOs:

PAR-21-315 - Blueprint MedTech Translator (UG3/UH3 - Clinical Trial Optional)

PAR-21-282 - Blueprint MedTech: Small Business Translator (U44 - Clinical Trial Optional)

Applicants are encouraged to reach out to BRAIN/Blueprint MedTech program staff for guidance on BRAIN-relevance of their technology. This notice applies to due dates on or after February 18, 2022, and subsequent receipt dates through June 20, 2024.

In addition, Blueprint MedTech will hold a Q&A Webinar for potential applicants on January 20, 2022, 11:00 AM EST, to answer questions about the program, funding opportunities, and the application process. The meeting will initially discuss funding opportunities (see recording at Blueprint MedTech Webinars). Those who have viewed the video in advance do not need to join the meeting until 11:15 AM EST.

The next receipt date for all Blueprint MedTech Funding Opportunities is February 18, 2022.

The webinar is open to public, but registration is required. Register for the webinar in advance. Participants can submit their questions before the meeting to Blueprint-MedTech@nih.gov
