A recently issued BRAIN Notice of Special Interest (NOSI) will support the dissemination of promising technologies and resources generated from BRAIN awards, fostering collaborations and integrating these research innovations into research practice.
A major goal of the NIH BRAIN Initiative is not only to develop novel neurotechnologies aimed at revolutionizing our understanding of the brain, but also to be able to share those technologies with others. The scientific impact of the BRAIN Initiative® will be accelerated through the rapid dissemination of technologies and resources to the neuroscience research community and beyond.
NIH is pleased to announce that it has issued NOT-NS-21-014, a Notice of Special Interest (NOSI) that will provide administrative supplements to support small dissemination efforts for existing BRAIN Initiative awards. The proposed work must be within the scope of the original parent award, but beyond its original dissemination plans.
This dissemination goal can be achieved through different types of activities. Some examples could include, but are not limited to: producing and distributing reagents; providing components, devices, or systems to end users; distribution of open source tools and software packages; facilities that enable scientists from outside institutions access to tools, equipment, or techniques; and projects focused on gathering information on and assessing end user needs.
Dissemination plans must be at a stage where the potential for a broader impact on research has been identified, including information about the laboratories/users to whom applicants plan to share the resource. Proposals may include dissemination to users beyond the current BRAIN community, as well as other BRAIN awardees. Fostering diversity in the scientific research workforce is a key component of BRAIN's strategy, and as such, applicants are strongly encouraged to consider the importance of diversity in the context of their dissemination efforts such as collaborating with investigators/institutions that are eligible for REAP or AREA grants or are located in IDeA-eligible states.
Submission acceptance is continuous but will be reviewed in cohorts based on the time of submission:
