Neuroscience Training Workshops featuring BRAIN-Initiative Funded Technologies

The Allen Institute will host three workshops featuring tools being disseminated through the BRAIN Initiative U24 Research Resource Grants for Technology Integration and Dissemination. Applications for the workshops are now open.

The Allen Institute, a BRAIN Initiative Alliance (BIA) partner, is hosting the following workshops this year:

Describe Your Neurons Like the Allen Institute
April 8-10, 2024

In this three-day workshop, participants will learn how to use the Allen Institute’s free open resources for defining cell types and cell properties. Participants will learn how to apply tools like the Cell Types Knowledge Explorer and Allen Brain Cell (ABC) Atlas in their own research. No experience with these methods is required to apply. Applications are due by January 8th, 2024. For more information, see the workshop webpage.

This workshop is supported by the NIH BRAIN Initiative dissemination program grant U24NS133077.

Neuropixels and OpenScope Workshop
June 12-14, 2024

This three-day workshop will feature lectures and demonstrations to introduce techniques used by the Allen Institute to collect large-scale in vivo physiology data. Participants will also gain familiarity with the Allen Brain Observatory, a standardized collection of in vivo physiology data from mouse visual cortex, and the OpenScope program, a platform to run neurophysiology experiments for external scientists. Applications to this workshop are due February 1st, 2024. For more information, see the workshop webpage.

This workshop is partially supported by the NIH BRAIN Initiative dissemination program grant U24NS113646.

Modeling Software Workshop
July 15-17, 2024

In this three-day workshop, participants will learn how to use open-source software modeling tools for building, simulating and visualizing bio-realistic models of brain circuits. These software tools include the SONATA file format, the Brain Modeling Toolkit (BMTK), and Visual Neuronal Dynamics (VND), which are included on the BIA’s Toolmaker’s Resources. Experience with modeling is not required, however some prior experience with Python may be useful. Applications to this workshop are due March 15th, 2024. For more information, see the workshop webpage.

This workshop is partially supported by the NIH BRAIN Initiative dissemination program grant U24NS124001.
