This F32 notice of funding opportunity supports research training of promising post-doctorates, early in their postdoctoral training period. The next deadlines for applications are in December 2020 and August 2021. NIH staff also recently recognized postdoctoral fellows for their efforts during National Postdoc Appreciation Week.

RFA-MH-20-620 BRAIN Initiative Fellows: Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award (NRSA) Individual Postdoctoral Fellowship (F32)

The goal of this notice of funding opportunity (NOFO) is to support the research training of outstanding post-doctoral fellows who have the potential to become productive investigators in research areas that will advance the goals of the Initiative. Applications are encouraged in any research area that is aligned with the BRAIN Initiative, including neuroethics. Applicants are expected to propose research training in an area that clearly complements their predoctoral research, and that will markedly broaden the applicant’s knowledge and skills. Formal training in analytical tools appropriate for the proposed research is expected to be an integral component of the research training plan. To maximize the training potential of the F32 award, this program encourages applications from individuals who have not yet completed their terminal doctoral degree and who expect to do so within 12 months of the application due date. Accordingly, preliminary data are not expected, but their inclusion is permissible. On the application due date, candidates may not have completed more than 12 months of postdoctoral training. This NOFO does not allow applicants to propose to lead an independent clinical trial, but does allow applicants to propose research experience in a clinical trial led by a sponsor or co-sponsor.

The next application deadlines are December 9, 2020 and August 10, 2021. For more information, please view the full notice.

As the NIH BRAIN Initiative supports post-doctoral training through this and other funding mechanisms, staff recently recognized the outstanding efforts from post-doctoral fellows nationwide through National Postdoc Appreciation Week. Activities included a (virtual) fireside chat 3-part series between NINDS Deputy Director, Dr. Nina Schor, and NIH BRAIN Initiative Director, Dr. John Ngai:

You can view all three parts of the fireside chat series here.

Further, BRAIN and NINDS staff, including NINDS Director, Dr. Walter Koroshetz, NINDS Scientific Director, Dr. Lorna Role, and NIMH Director, Dr. Joshua Gordon, also issued messages of recognition and support to postdocs everywhere:
