Members of the BRAIN community may be interested in the NIH Common Fund’s Stimulating Peripheral Activity to Relieve Conditions (SPARC) program, which seeks to accelerate development of therapeutic devices that modulate electrical activity in nerves to improve organ function and is generating maps and tools to identify and influence therapeutic targets that exist within the neural circuitry of a wide range of organs and tissues.
The HORNET program: The primary goal of the SPARC HORNET (RFA-RM-21-04) Initiative is to advance the clinical translation of neuromodulation therapies in humans by supporting an open-source ecosystem of accessible technology and tools. This U41 cooperative agreement opportunity will fund centers to create interoperable, open-source modules that can be combined into custom profiles for new exploratory and clinical neuromodulation studies in the peripheral nervous system, and for potential applicability in the central nervous system. The only receipt date for this funding opportunity is January 12, 2022.
The SPARC program will be holding two Q&A webinars about the HORNET program. These webinars are for potential applicants to answer questions about the HORNET Initiative and the application process.
