Notices of funding opportunities for 2023: Training, equity, and inclusion

This week, we will highlight BRAIN Initiative notices of funding opportunities (NOFOs) for fiscal year 2023. Today’s post features NOFOs for training, equity and inclusion. 

Training, Equity, and Inclusion 

RFA-NS-21-012 NIH Blueprint and BRAIN Initiative Diversity Specialized Predoctoral to Postdoctoral Advancement in Neuroscience (D-SPAN) Award (Reissue of RFA-NS-19-011, F99/K00 Clinical Trial Not Allowed) 

NIH Blueprint and the BRAIN Initiative Diversity Specialized Predoctoral to Postdoctoral Advancement in Neuroscience (D-SPAN) Award supports a defined pathway across career stages for diverse graduate students, including those from groups underrepresented in biomedical and behavioral sciences. This two-phase award will facilitate completion of the doctoral dissertation and transition to neuroscience research postdoctoral positions. This award will provide career development opportunities relevant to independent careers in neuroscience research. Please read the full NOFO for more information. RFA-EY-21-003 BRAIN Initiative-Related Research Education: Short Courses (R25 Clinical Trial Not Allowed 

This NOFO encourages applications for the continuation of ongoing and creation of new courses for skills development that will advance the education goals of the BRAIN Initiative. Proposed programs should offer hands-on research experiences, an in-depth understanding of associated tools and techniques, and the knowledge to apply analytic approaches to the resulting data. Participants are limited to graduate students, medical students, medical residents, postdoctoral scholars, and early-career faculty. Please read the full NOFO for more information. Applications are due February 15, 2023.  

NOT-NS-22-012 Notice to Encourage Eligible NIH BRAIN Initiative Awardees to Apply for PA-21-071 Research Supplements to Promote Diversity in Health-Related Research 

The BRAIN Initiative is committed to fostering diversity and inclusivity in the research community. This notice encourages awardees in the BRAIN Initiative community to apply for administrative supplements in response to Research Supplements to Promote Diversity in Health-Related Research (PA-21-071). BRAIN investigators should strive to compose teams diverse in perspectives, backgrounds, and academic disciplines and provide opportunity and participation to individuals and groups underrepresented in neuroscience. NOT-NS-23-039 Notice of Change to Key Dates and Review Locus for RFA-NS-19-043 BRAIN Initiative Advanced Postdoctoral Career Transition Award to Promote Diversity (K99/R00 Independent Clinical Trial Not Allowed) and NOT-NS-23-040 Notice of Change to Key Dates and Review Locus for RFA-NS-19-044 BRAIN Initiative Advanced Postdoctoral Career Transition Award to Promote Diversity (K99/R00 Independent Clinical Trial Required) 

The purpose of these notices is to inform applicants of a change to the key dates and review locus of RFA-NS-19-043: BRAIN Initiative Advanced Postdoctoral Career Transition Award to Promote Diversity (K99/R00 Independent Clinical Trial Not Allowed) and NS-19-044: BRAIN Initiative Advanced Postdoctoral Career Transition Award to Promote Diversity (K99/R00 Independent Clinical Trial Required. The purpose of the NIH BRAIN Initiative Advanced Postdoctoral Career Transition Award to Promote Diversity (K99/R00) program is to enhance workforce diversity in the neuroscience workforce and maintain a strong cohort of new and talented, NIH-supported, independent investigators from diverse backgrounds in BRAIN Initiative research areas. These NOFOs have been extended to February 10, 2023 for new submissions and March 10, 2023 for resubmissions. For more information, please read the full notices.
