Neuroethics Working Group Meeting – Monday, January 24, 2022

First, Dr. John Ngai, NIH BRAIN Initiative Director, will give a brief update on the current progress of the Initiative. Next, Dr. Christine Grady, NEWG co-chair and Senior Investigator and Chief of the NIH Department of Bioethics, will introduce the meeting’s primary topic on ethical challenges in implanted neural device research in humans, with an overarching goal of identifying unresolved ethical challenges where more research and guidance may be needed. The session will feature presentations from Dr. Ashley Feinsinger (UCLA) and Dr. Sara Goering (University of Washington), followed by a panel discussion with NEWG members and clinician-scientist investigator, ethicist, and patient-participant perspectives. Dr. Hank Greely, NEWG co-chair and Deane F. and Kate Edelman Johnson Professor of Law at Stanford University, will moderate the last section focusing on NEWG updates and goals for 2022 and beyond.
