The NIH Blueprint and BRAIN Initiative Diversity Specialized Predoctoral to Postdoctoral Advancement in Neuroscience (D-SPAN) Award has been reissued and an accompanying open house webinar resource is readily available.
Training, inclusion, and equity play a central role at the NIH Blueprint and BRAIN Initiative and efforts focus on the development of early-stage investigators and on initiatives to enhance the diversity of the biomedical workforce.
The D-SPAN Award (F99/K00 Clinical Trial Not Allowed) [RFA-NS-24-030] supports a defined pathway across career stages for skilled graduate students from diverse backgrounds, including those from groups underrepresented in biomedical and behavioral sciences. This award provides up to 6 years of support through two phases. It facilitates the completion of the doctoral dissertation (1-2 years) and the transition of talented graduate students to strong neuroscience research postdoctoral positions (up to 4 years). This award also provides career development opportunities relevant to their long-term career goal of becoming independent neuroscience researchers.
