Training, inclusion, and equity play a central role at the NIH BRAIN Initiative and efforts focus on the development of early-stage investigators and on initiatives to enhance the diversity of the biomedical workforce.
The NIH BRAIN Initiative supports a continuum of programs. This includes early education (Science Education Partnership Awards (SEPA), diversity supplements) to funding opportunities for early-stage postdoctoral scholars to conduct research that uses novel tools developed through the NIH BRAIN Initiative. Opportunities are also centered on bridging the gap between late-stage postdoctoral training and early independence for scientists often underrepresented in the biomedical enterprise.
The NIH BRAIN Initiative’s training, inclusion, and equity program regularly convenes activities and workshops that bring together promising scholars across the career development pipeline not only to support community development, but also designed to address key issues linked to retention of these promising scholars.
