The NIH BRAIN Initiative issues several notices of change for cancelling a select number of funding opportunities and receipt dates.
In this fiscal year (FY24), the BRAIN Initiative received a 40% decrease to its budget. In April, Dr. John Ngai, Director of the NIH BRAIN Initiative, issued a Director’s Message regarding the FY24 budget and a new webpage was recently published to explain the complexity of the BRAIN Initiative budget.
The result of this decrease not only impacts NIH's ability to support BRAIN Initiative grants in FY24, but into the next fiscal year as well. The Office of the BRAIN Director and BRAIN Initiative programmatic team members have examined current and pending funding opportunities. The table below outlines changes to certain BRAIN Initiative funding opportunities and receipt dates managed by the National Eye Institute, the National Institute of Mental Health, and the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke.
Please refer to the Notices of Funding Opportunities webpage for more details on these and other BRAIN-relevant notices that may arise. You may also wish to visit the new budget webpage that includes frequently asked questions for researchers, which will continue to be updated with information and resources as they become available.
