Postdoctoral Fellow

Dr. Tara Raam is a postdoctoral fellow in the lab of Dr. Weizhe Hong’s lab at the University of California, Los Angeles. She began her research career as an undergraduate at the University of California, San Diego, studying disrupted morphology of hippocampal microcircuits in Alzheimer’s Disease in the lab of Dr. Anirvan Ghosh. After completing a Bachelor of Science in physiology and neuroscience, she pursued her graduate studies at Harvard University, where she uncovered a novel role for oxytocin in modulating hippocampal circuits during social recognition memory under the mentorship of Dr. Amar Sahay. As a postdoctoral fellow, Tara aims to build on her background in circuit neuroscience to understand the dynamics of social interactions in larger groups. Her BRAIN Initiative K99/R00 project combines in vivo Miniscope calcium imaging, machine learning approaches, and circuit dissection tools to understand how prefrontal circuitry enables multi-animal groups to appropriately coordinate their behavior in response to environmental stressors.
